James Webb Space Telescope Tour – 11/04

James WebbA very exciting opportunity has come up for us to take a tour of the facility where they are currently working on the James Webb Space Telescope (Northrup Grumman in Redondo Beach). If you haven’t heard of this before, here is a short blurb about it from their website:

“The James Webb Space Telescope (sometimes called JWST or Webb) will be a large infrared telescope with a 6.5-meter primary mirror.  The telescope will be launched from French Guiana in Spring 2019. JWST will be the premier observatory of the next decade, serving thousands of astronomers worldwide. It will study every phase in the history of our Universe, ranging from the first luminous glows after the Big Bang, to the formation of solar systems capable of supporting life on planets like Earth, to the evolution of our own Solar System. JWST will be a powerful time machine with infrared vision that will peer back over 13.5 billion years to see the first stars and galaxies forming out of the darkness of the early universe.”
